A leading shiftwork consulting firm, Shiftwork Solutions LLC, noted that when the economy takes a nose dive, managers of shiftwork operations often attempt to reduce capacity and cut costs. Shiftwork Solutions explained that the most efficient way to reduce capacity is to operate fewer days a week. When cutting costs, managers should not overlook opportunities to improve productivity and decrease the labor cost per unit of production.
